BRUINS LET ANOTHER LEAD SLIP AWAY
Lose 6-5 to the Edmonton Royals
December 21, 2011
Just wasn't meant to be. The Bruins ended the 2011 year with a loss to the Edmonton Royals, who have defeated the Bruins three time this season. The Bruins held the lead late into the 3rd period, on a shorthanded goal by #11 Keagan Gorda, but they couldn't keep the lead and the Royals prevailed with a late PP goal to win the game.
The Bruins, who were missing eight players due to injuries, called upon five affiliates to round out the lineup and they all played well considering the team they had to take on. On a positive note the Bruins have closed the gap on the Royals in every game this season, bringing down the margin from five goals, to 3 goals, down to one goal this game. Had the Bruins finished on the majority of their scoring chances, the outcome could have been different.
The Bruins have 12 games remaining in the 2011-12 regular season and will be looking to secure a playoff spot in 2012. They start the year off with a home game versus the Edmonton Mustangs who have had a resurgence of late. Also look forward to the Bruins debuting their alternate uniforms in the new year, maybe that will be the spark that the Bruins need to push their win totals up.
BRUINS LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK
RECENT STRING OF LOSSES COSTLY FOR CLUB
Niovember 11, 2011
Work for 60 minutes, 65 if need be...this is the message being sent home to the Bruins players all season. The Bruins head into the weekend with a 7-7-1 record, a record that by team standards, is unacceptable. "We've given games away, by simply not competing for the whole game. No team will ever win if they don't want to compete for the full 60 minutes, something our boys are learning very quickly." The east division is once again very competitive and on any given night any team can win. The Edmonton Royals, Bruins' opponent on Sunday, has recently suffered their first losses of the season to Sherwood Park and Wetaskiwin. The east division is unpredicatable, whoever competes the hardest will no doubt have a better chance at victory on that night. The Bruins are coming off a good effort against the Sherwood Park Knights, a game which was won by the Knights in an overtime shootout on a rebound dribbler off of Mike Figgures who stopped the initial shot in the shootout. Keagan Gorda then hit the post and the Bruins were stymied on their 3rd attempt. Despite the loss, the Bruins played hard for 65 minutes and came away knowing that if they play hard every night, they can compete with the best in the CJHL, which has been evidences in the past on other nights. "As a coaching staff we cannot tolerate losses to teams we feel we should beat, however that has been happening over the course of the last month with some of our players. They are working hard to develop better habits, something that always happens with a young team full of new players.
On the defensive side of things, the Bruins welcomed new defenseman Jordan D'Amore, recently signed by the Bruins. Jordan has spent the first few weeks of the season in Saskatchewan playing with the Melfort Mustangs of the SJHL and the Tri-Town Thunder of the PJHL. He will be a welcome addition to a position that the Bruins have had a hard time filling this season. If not for injuries, it would be the first time all season that the Bruins would have had 6 legitimate defensemen on their blueline, however Michael Brice went down last game with a laceration to the foot. Until then they will continue to fill the d position with a forward.
TOM THUMB WARRIORS VS THE BRUINS
SPIRITED AFFAIR SEES THE TOM THUMBS ON TOP 12-5
March 13th, 2011
The Bruins had one more opponent before the end of the season, the Tom Thumb 3 Warriors visited SOC and brought the game to the Bruins. The Tom Thumbs brought a lot of new tactics that the Bruins have not seen this season. The most common was the constant 5-man puck pressure that the Warriors used to perfection.
In the end, the Warriors continued their stellar season by defeating the Bruins 12-5. Everyone from the players to the parents in the stands had a lot of fun and was definately a memorable occassion for everyone involved.
