Philosophy

Providing student-athletes with the opportunity to compete in junior hockey while attending post-secondary institutions is rewarding, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and prepares young adults for real-life experiences.

The Strathcona Bruins Junior Hockey Club allows student-athletes that privilege. By providing players an opportunity to compete, our athletes can directly focus on their studies and prepare themselves for further educational and athletic opportunities. The players are challenged to learn how to manage their time between hockey, school, and work so they can prepare themselves to effectively manage their future.

We are a non-profit junior hockey club that encourages the development of our student-athletes on and off the ice. We feel that the lessons learned go beyond the boundaries of a hockey rink and can be extended to life skills by focusing on four categories; On-ice training, Off-ice training, Education, and Community Involvement. With minimal travel throughout the season, members of the Bruins are encouraged to pursue post-secondary education and we feel that it is important that all of our players attend post-secondary studies and/or obtain employment during the season so they can learn to manage their time effectively as adults between school, hockey, and work.

Success in these categories will help our student-athletes move forward in life and we are committed to assist them further their education and hockey pursuits. Moving players beyond and providing opportunities is what we are about.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
